Some New Search and Gmail Features

Some New Search and Gmail Features

First, as you type a search in Gmail you'll start instantly seeing relevant emails as well as results from Google Drive and more.
Gmail and Drive results as you type.
Second, now when you're searching on Google.com, you'll be able to more easily find the information you need quickly, like your flight information or hotel and restaurant reservations. Instead of digging through your email or documents, you can search on Google.com for [my flights] or [my reservations], and you'll see this useful information appear right in Search. Now you can quickly see if your flight is delayed or if you need to change your upcoming reservations. You can also try searches for [my receipts] and [my events]. Your searches on Google.com may also bring up relevant emails, files, events and more from Gmail and Google Drive.
Flight reservations and status in Google search.
These results on Google.com are only visible to you, so you need to be signed in, and the pages are transmitted over SSL-encrypted channels, the same security protocol used in Gmail.

We would love to hear what you think, so please click on "Give feedback" on these results to let us know. You can also visit our Web Search forum to connect directly with other field trial participants. If you would like to leave the field trial, you can do so from the field trial page.

HSBC Bank Hacked: DOS Attack: No Data Breach

British banking group HSBC said Friday that its global Internet banking system was hacked but there was no data breach.

"On 18 October 2012 HSBC servers came under a denial of service attack which affected a number of HSBC websites around the world," the statement read. "Some sites are now back up and running."
The attack did not affect "any customer data" but disrupted the bank's online services, including Internet banking, it said.

A distributed denial of service attack means that the system was flooded with incoming messages that crippled it and denied service to legitimate users.

Full online service is still being restored, the bank said.

Rhonda Lam, spokeswoman of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Hong Kong's de facto central bank and regulator, said the authority has received a preliminary report from HSBC notifying it of the hacking and it will wait for the full report and follow up with the bank.

Spoofed & Fake Emails Sent from genuine email ID of the PM Unit, PIB with the subject line “My Terrible Situation.”

Spoofed & Fake Emails Sent from genuine email ID of the PM Unit, PIB with the subject line “My Terrible Situation.”

The email account that belongs to the Press Information Bureau (PIB) that handles all communication between the PMO and the media was hacked yesterday, reports DNA. As a result, fake emails were sent out with the subject line reading “my terrible situation”. Though the PMO did issue an advisory to control the situation spiralling out of hand, quite a few journalists received the email. As part of the advisory issued by the PMO, those who received the bogus email were requested to ignore it. The advisory read, “It has come to our notice that emails have been received by some journalists from an email ID that impersonates the genuine email ID of the PM Unit, PIB. The fake email comes with the subject line “My Terrible Situation.”

The bogus email sought financial assistance from its recipients and elaborated upon a situation of distress. It read, “I’m writing this with tears in my eyes, I came down to Madrid. Spain, for a short vacation but unfortunately. I was mugged at the park, on my way to the hotel where I lodge. All cash, credit card and my cell phone were stolen from me but luckily for me, I still have my passport with me. I’ve been to the embassy and the Police here but they’re not helping issues at all. My flight leaves in a couple of hours but am having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won’t let me leave until i settle the bills.”

From among those who received this email, Gmail users were shown by a warning by Gmail that asked them to be cautious about it. It warned that the sender’s account may have been compromised, and hence this may be a ploy to steal personal information.

In August, six Twitter accounts impersonating or spoofing the Prime Minister's official Twitter account, @PMOIndia were shut down after the content on them was found to be objectionable. The incident was independent of the recent chronology of events, wherein websites with objectionable content were being blocked to curb communal tension in the country. The PMO asked the Cyber Security Cell of the Department of Information and Technology to block these six Twitter accounts. The PMO believed that the fake accounts could be mistaken for the real one, and lead to serious consequences.

Soon after, Twitter agreed to block all fake accounts resembling the Prime Minister's official account at a 12-hour notice. Reportedly, the government had asked Twitter to remove offensive content, else it would be shut off in the country.

Google Decided to Retire the AdSense for Feeds

Source: http://support.google.com/adsense

After carefully evaluating the product, we’ve decided to retire the AdSense for feeds product.
The process will happen in two phases and your account will be affected, depending on your usage of the product. To check whether you’re currently generating any revenue from AdSense for feeds, run your “Products” performance report and review the listed products for recent data for "AdSense for feeds."
Choose the situation applies to you:

Other AdSense products

Although AdSense for feeds is going away, this change won’t affect any other AdSense products you’re currently using or the availability of the other products to you.

Payments

Your AdSense for feeds units will continue to accrue earnings until December 3, when they will stop showing ads on your RSS feeds. As of the last day of December 2012, your earnings will be finalized as usual. At this point, one of the following will apply:
  • If your earnings exceed the payment threshold, your account will be sent for approval for payment, and payments will be issued through the standard AdSense payment process.

  • If your earnings do not exceed the payment threshold, but you use other AdSense products, your AdSense for feeds earnings will be accrued toward payment in a future period when your AdSense account does exceed the payment threshold.

  • If your earnings do not exceed the payment threshold and you don’t use other AdSense products then the amount of accrued earnings from your AdSense for feeds units will remain as a balance in your AdSense account for as long as your account is open.

Reports and earnings

Reporting on AdSense for feeds and corresponding channels will remain available in your account. Even though you will no longer be able to access AdSense for feeds settings and channels, you will be able to see historical performance of them on thePerformance reports tab in your AdSense account.

The tweet was deleted a little later.
On Friday, Suresh Raina tweeted an explanation that the controversial tweet was actually tweeted by his nephew.
"Smart phones r dangerous. Discovered it last night after my nephew posted random tweets. I'm a sportsman and would never disrespect," he tweeted.
"Though I already deleted it, I felt its better to clarify. To all those who r upset, I'm sorry. I'm not one to show disrespect."
Looking at Twitterati's reactions after his explanation, it seems they don't believe him though. #Raina, #RainaNephew started trending minutes after his tweets. Here are few funny tweets.
